The ASI6200MM Pro is a modern full-frame monochrome astro camera with impressive technology and sophisticated design. At its heart is the back-illuminated Sony IMX455 CMOS sensor with an enormous resolution of 61.2 megapixels (9576 x 6388 pixels). This makes it perfect for detailed deep-sky images, large-scale nebulae or galaxies and delivers razor-sharp, color-intensive images with high contrast.
With a pixel size of 3.76 µm, the camera combines high sensitivity with excellent dynamic range. The native 16-bit ADC generates a dynamic range of up to 14 f-stops, making the finest differences in brightness visible – without any abrupt transitions. This really comes into its own with long exposures: The camera produces an absolutely clean image without the otherwise typical “amp glow”, i.e. without annoying glow at high gain values.
The two-stage TEC cooling reduces the sensor temperature by up to 35 °C below the ambient temperature. This effectively suppresses thermal noise even on warm nights and with long exposure times. This is complemented by the innovative dark current suppression technology, which further minimizes the dark current – at 0 °C it is only 0.0017e-/s/pixel.
A polyimide-based heater is integrated into the protective lens to prevent dew from forming and automatically counteracts condensation. This guarantees a clear view – even in high humidity or fluctuating temperatures.
Data is transferred reliably via USB 3.0, supported by a 512 MB DDR3 buffer, which stabilizes the buffering of large image files – ideal for continuous shooting or live view applications. The camera weighs just 0.7 kg, making it a lightweight but powerful companion on the telescope. Three sets of push-pull screws ensure precise sensor adjustment so that tilt problems can be elegantly compensated for.
