The Sky-Watcher Evostar-150ED apochromatic doublet refractor has undergone some fantastic improvements. We are pleased to introduce the new Evostar-150EDX model, which has received a number of very useful mechanical improvements. It comes in a beautiful white/green finish. The Evostar-150EDX is an excellent instrument for both visual observation and photographic use with all the necessary accessories.
The new Evostar-150EDX is now equipped with a CNC-machined 3″ rack and pinion focuser with scale, which has a 360° rotatable adapter, a retractable dew cap and a handle that also serves as a mounting rail. It is also equipped with solid tube clamps made of anodized aluminium and a 75 mm prism rail.
It contains the same proven f/8 optics as the previous model, which includes a lens made from premium Japanese Ohara FPL-53 ED glass, which eliminates visible chromatic aberration. An optional 0.77x Focal Reducer / Field Flattener (20333) is available for photography.
The optics deliver razor-sharp stars with a pitch-black, high-contrast sky background. Each glass-to-air surface is coated with an exotic metallic coating that provides an impressive 99.5% light transmission. Sky-Watcher’s proprietary Metallic High-Transmision Coatings (MHTC) are among the finest anti-reflective coatings in their class.
Apochromatic refractors, with their unobstructed, picture-book diffraction figures, produce the sharpest, highest quality optical image possible for this aperture of any optical system available.
For a long time, the Evostar-ED Doublets have been the best choice of photographic refractors for many astrophotographers, due to their combination of excellent imaging performance and low price. Due to the use of less glass in their construction, they are usually lighter and therefore more comfortable to transport than comparable triplet or other multi-lens ED refractors with this aperture.
