The Seestar S50 Pro is a fully integrated smart telescope with a 50 mm aperture designed for astrophotography and automated sky observation. The optics, cameras, tracking system, control unit, and power supply are all combined into a single compact system. Compared to traditional astrophotography setups, this eliminates the need to combine multiple separate devices and cables. The S50 Pro is suitable for deep-sky imaging, Milky Way photography, solar and lunar observation, as well as terrestrial applications.
50 mm aperture and apochromatic optics
The 50-mm aperture provides high light-gathering power for faint deep-sky objects and correspondingly good optical resolution for finer details. The folded optical system also allows for a compact design. The four-element apochromatic objective incorporates ED glass to correct chromatic aberrations and is designed to produce a clean, sharp image of the stars.
4K Dual-Camera System
The S50 Pro combines a telephoto and a wide-angle camera, both of which support 4K UHD resolution. The telephoto camera features a large 1/1.2-inch sensor and is designed specifically for detailed imaging of deep-sky objects. The wide-angle camera captures a significantly larger field of view and complements the system for wide-area astrophotography.
Mosaic and Milky Way Photographs
For subjects that extend beyond the field of view of a single telephoto shot, the S50 Pro supports automatic mosaic shooting. Multiple individual images are stitched together to form a larger field of view, while maintaining the detailed resolution of the telephoto lens. The output can reach a resolution of up to 8K. Starry Sky Mode also offers various stitching options for Milky Way shots and allows for the automatic creation of a Milky Way arc.
Integrated Filter System
Three built-in filters support a variety of shooting situations. An astronomical light pollution filter reduces interference from urban light pollution and moonlight. A dark-frame filter reduces image noise during long exposures, while the IR-cut filter blocks unwanted infrared light.
Automatic Object Search and Tracking
Using the extensive object database, you can select a celestial object and then automatically point the telescope at it using GOTO. The telescope handles positioning, tracking, and imaging. A precise drive unit with virtually backlash-free mechanics ensures smooth movement and accurate corrections.
Plan Mode and Equatorial Mode
In Plan Mode, observation and imaging sequences can be prepared and then executed automatically. The system can move to and image multiple targets in succession. In addition, the S50 Pro supports an equatorial mode that compensates for the Earth’s rotation during tracking, thereby enabling longer exposures and more stable positioning of the subject.
Automatic Image Processing
The built-in image processing allows for automatic post-processing with a single command. For more precise editing, features such as star reduction, star removal, cropping, and adjustments to brightness, contrast, noise reduction, and saturation are available.
Other Shooting Modes
In addition to deep-sky objects and the Milky Way, the S50 Pro can capture sunspots, details of the Moon’s surface, and solar and lunar eclipses. For terrestrial applications, it can be used as a telephoto observation camera—for example, for birds, distant landscapes, or other far-off subjects. Long-exposure shots of star trails can be automatically processed into dynamic videos.
Battery, Storage, and Advanced Control
The built-in rechargeable battery has a capacity of 10,000 mAh and provides a specified operating time of up to nine hours. For advanced applications, the S50 Pro supports the open ASCOM Alpaca protocol and can therefore be connected to compatible astronomy software such as N.I.N.A. Additionally, remote control features and a built-in AI Assistant are available to assist with object search, observation, imaging, and operation.
